Kilbrittain Parish Bulletin
May 2011
The Easter Season.
The origins of the word “Easter” is not certain but probably drives from Estre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of Spring. Most other languages follow the Greek term used by the early Christians: pascha, from the Hebrew pesach (Passover). The western churches celebrate Easter on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox. The Easter season last 50 day, from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday. It is the season of Joy, when we celebrate the fact that Jesus has risen. Easter should be the most openly joyful time of celebration of the church year. This season truly becomes a living expression of the hope that God has brought into the world through the death and resurrection of Jesus and we are called to bear witness to it.
Pastoral Area News.
As you may know there has been ongoing discussions about the reduction of priests that will be available for parish ministry in our pastoral area. The pastoral area coordinating group has been asked to present proposals for the reduction of the number of weekend masses. It has generally been accepted that each parish will be asked to reduce by one mass at the weekend. Our Parish Assembly are now interested in gathering the view of as many people as possible. So you are being ask to make your suggestions! Giving, that we here in Kilbrittain, will be asked to reduce from three masses (1 vigil mass and 2 on Sunday morning) to two altogether, how best can this be done? Which mass should stay or which should go? Do we have a vigil mass on Sat. and one mass on Sunday? At what times should the two masses be scheduled? Please put your suggestions in the box provided in the church by next Sunday 8th May
