Kilbrittain Parish Bulletin
Summer 2007
Elections!
No doubt about it! Nervously smiling faces looking out at us from poles and posts and trees. A blight on the landscape. Promises of feeding our dreams and our greed. Do we really vote for self interest or do we vote for a better country for a caring and sharing society? If we want effective and efficient services then we must pay for them. It is a privilege to be able to vote. A large majority of the population of the world do not have that privilege. Privileges carry responsibilities. Go out and vote conscientiously.
Meanwhile we have our own parish elections. Our Parish Pastoral Assembly has enhanced the life of the parish at both pastoral and community level.
People, who accepted the confidence that was put in them at election, have made plans and carried them out for the good of the parish. The achievements have been recognised and commended by many.
During these coming days ballot papers will be distributed to each home in the parish. Do take and interest; do vote and if asked to take part in an new assembly do seriously consider it.

Parish Pastoral Assembly
Vision Group
Elections for the Parish Pastoral Assembly were held in late Summer of 2004. There was a good response to the voting. Of those who were proposed thirty people agreed to go on the new Assembly. This number includes seven people who were elected to serve for another three years. This was a help to provide some continuity from one Assembly to the next.
There were again a series of four weekly familiarisation meetings during the month of September. After this members of the Kilbrittain Parish Assembly met in Myross Wood Retreat House on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th October.
At this meeting the whole group discussed the good things about the parish and out of that looked at what they would like to see as the ideal parish. From this they produced a "vision" at which to aim. The Vision Group was then elected at this weekend. It is the co-ordinating body of the Parish Assembly and the group which upholds the vision of the entire assembly. It is also a liaison between the other groups formed at that weekend, namely: Faith Development, Community Care, and Community Involvement. These groups met regularly with the vision group to maintain their focus.
Each group then developed various projects throughout the three years such as, Parish mission , Mass for the Bereaved, Youth Initiatives , Information Evenings etc. within the Parish.

Corpus Christi
The Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ will be on Sunday the 10th of June this year. The Procession of the Blessed Sacrament will take part after the last Mass on that day. After the procession the Blessed Sacrament will be on the altar of the church for the rest of the afternoon. The usual rota of townlands for adoration will be posted on the Notice Boards.
During the following week the church will be vacated to allow the work on the floor to begin. We would hope that that will be completed in about six weeks.
