Memorial

Justin Kearney died suddenly on the 28th July 2004. He was only 31. Justin had struggled with illness most of his life; never the less he had endeared himself to a huge number of people far and wide. His death was mourned by many people and his funeral in Kilbrittain was attended by a very large number of people.

On 30th August 2005 a memorial to Justin Kearney was unveiled in Kilbrittain Village. A Park Bench around a beech tree, in the green by the Grotto, was designed and made locally.

A table quiz, organised by Bill Wafer began a fund to which Justin's many friends contributed.

A cheque for €3,474.30 was presented to the Heart Foundation and Research Trust at the Cork University Hospital, and accepted by Dr. Will Fennell, Justin's consultant cardiologist and his research colleague Dr. Peter Kearney.

The Team: (front from left) John Murray, Kevin Beecher (John's grandson), Daniel Murray ( John's son) and Dave Phillips (who made the bench). Back: Tim Crowley (who did the landscaping), Bill Wafer and Brendan and May.

Brendan and May Kearney, Justin's parents, host a "Coffee Evening" in memory of Justin each Summer since his death. On each occasion they raise in the region of three thousand Euro. This money is then presented to the Heart Foundation and Research Trust at the Cork University Hospital.
