Mary Bradley

A CONFIDANT and caring soul was how friends described the late Mary Bradley from the West Cork village of Kilbrittain. Mary was the sacristan of St Patrick's Church in the village. She passed away peacefully at Bandon Community Hospital on March 14 2005 at the age of 72.

Friend and parish priest of Kilbrittain, Fr Tom Riordan, said: "There was always a sense of fun about her and so many people looked on Mary like a granny. She loved people and loved hearing news about the village."

She took on her brother's role as sacristan after he passed away in the late 1990s. People in the village remember Mary most for her role as Community Secretary. "Everyone knew Mary from going to the local dances. She would collect money at the door and chat with people as they went in.

"She was a very humble person and loved by so many, she'll be greatly missed," added Fr Riordan.

Before her role as sacristan Mary worked at Polytron in Kinsale as a supervisor and first aid worker, until its closure in 1993. "The girls loved her there and they all went to her for advice," said Fr Riordan.

She will be deeply missed by her many, many friends.
